"Do you remember what I said to you about the chains?" "If I stay in chains long enough, I will learn to love you. It is better that I love you by force than be given freedom to choose."

Book: Starlighter by Bryan Davis,  Zondervan Publishers, 2010
Starlighter (Dragons of Starlight)
Genre: Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Alternate Reality
Target Audience: Boys 12-18
Subjects: Love for others, sacrificial love, belief/faith in God
Summary: Jason has a lot of respect for his family’s faith in God. But that doesn’t mean he has embraced it for himself. The time for decision has come though. He has to decide what values and beliefs he will embrace when he embarks on a dangerous, quite likely, life-threatening quest to the world of the dragons who have been taking captive their people.
Notes: Once more Bryan Davis writes an extremely complex novel that gets confusing fast. And also as usual, those who can't keep up with all the alternate reality stuff, can still enjoy a really good story that calls into question valuable things. This series and the alternate series take a look at honor and what it means to be a true gentleman, even though that is far from the terms used. The characters have to face themselves and what they believe, have to question their hearts and find within themselves the ability to stand for faith when all seems lost.

1 John 4:9-11 - This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
