They came within a few yards of the group. Then the chief held up his hand. The warrior stopped. He held up his arms to keep the children back.
“Why won’t they let us go?” Beth asked.

John looked worried. He said, “I think the chief plans to trade us!”

Book: Problems in Plymouth (AIO Imagination Station Books) by Marianne Hering and Marshal Younger, Focus on the Family and Tyndale House Publishing, 2011

Genre: Adventure
Target Audience: Boys and girls 8-13
Subjects: Pilgrims, Native Americans, Crime, Honesty
Summary: Arriving just about in time for the first Thanksgiving, Patrick and Beth have more than feasts on their mind. Hugh must be stopped, once and for all! And they are the ones to do it! But before they can get to him, they are captured by Indians and held hostage, along with a young pilgrim boy. When the settlers come looking for their lost one, it seems the Indians aren’t too happy with them due to some theft of their corn! How can the children ever capture Hugh if they are the captives themselves?
Notes: This is the 6th in the Imagination Station Adventures series. The series is much like the secular Magic Tree House books but instead of wizards and magic it’s imagination and inventions giving them the different place/different time experiences. The radio show the concept is taken from is very solid – full of great spiritual elements and lessons and challenges as well as fun and excitement. This book does not place a large emphasis on the spiritual elements through the children. Patrick and Beth don’t focus on their relationship with Jesus as they do in some of the other books of the series. However, the pilgrims model their faith as they seek to let it determine how to live their lives. At one point, someone challenges them to do something to make life easier for themselves, but the suggestion is refused, saying that as Christians they need to live their lives with honesty and integrity. At the end, when the children come back to Whit’s End, Mr. Whittaker points out that their values come from the Bible.

Philippians 2:15 – so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
