“If there’s a break in the shoulder, they’ll say to put him down. God, please, please, I can’t lose Major this way. It’s all my fault. I…oh, God, please please.”

Book: Letting Go (High Hurdles #8) by Lauraine Snelling, Bethany House Publishers, 1999

Genre: Horse story/Realistic Fiction
Target Audience: Girls
Subjects: Stress, change, trials
Summary: DJ is adjusting well to the changes in her life, her relationship with her mom has improved immensely, she’s even calling both Robert and Brad “dad” now. But just when she thinks she’s gotten through the worst of it, Major gets injured and DJ has to start working with a new horse. Herndon is not near as responsive or friendly as Major and DJ is having a hard time even liking riding him, let alone winning with him! Are her show days over now that Major can no longer compete?
Notes: This book continues the storyline of the High hurdles series about a young girl with dreams of being an Olympic jumper. In this, the 8th book, DJ has to learn some lessons about letting go and trusting God to handle her fears. She lets her fear of not being able to perform well on Herndon affect her jumping and is challenged when her dad has her reading a verse during family devotions about worrying. She realizes she needs to let go of her fears and trust God to take care of her, as well as her horses.

Matthew 6:25 – Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. If life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.
