The Hidden Treasure Of Lamu

“When I told him I wasn’t finished, he grabbed my wrist and squeezed so hard it left a mark! See!” He showed us the red marks. “Then he said, ‘Go now!’ So I ran out of the shop. Before I got out the door, the three men started shouting at Omari again. I don’t know what was going on but they sure were angry.”

Book: The Hidden Treasure Of Lamu by Shel Arensen, Multnomah Books, 1996
Genre: Adventure
Target Audience: Boys 10-13
Subjects: Missions
Summary: Four boys, an African village to explore, a hidden treasure, and a couple of thieves is the recipe for lots of excitement in this story. The boys are traveling with the dads to a village that is being considered for a mission. While there, Dave takes some lessons from a silversmith and accidentally stumbles into a mystery involving a legendary building that some doubt the very existence of. Soon thieves are pursuing them as they search for treasure they believe the boys to have.
Notes: The lesson in this book is about the power of kindness. The missionaries want to set up a mission in this town, but it is not at all receptive to the Gospel – except for one man. He is the brother of someone who had been helped by the missionary doctor. He recognizes the kindness and responds to it. The story concludes with the missionaries having hope of making a difference after all. This is the fifth book in the Rhino Tales Adventure series.
